Balloon sinuplasty is a safe and effective way to treat sinus conditions, with patients having very few side effects after the procedure.

Physician assistant Diana Ruiloba of Arizona Breathe Free Sinus & Allergy Centers recommends that chronic sinus sufferers should seriously consider having the procedure.

“Balloon sinuplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that uses an advanced technique (a balloon) to treat sinuses," Ruiloba said. "This is an appropriate intervention for sinuses that are no longer functioning optimally. This procedure, on average, takes about 30 to 40 minutes, which conveniently can be done in the office. Overall, a great procedure to help improve quality of life by giving you an opportunity to breathe your best.”

Balloon sinuplasty is a new relatively new treatment -- approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2005 -- that sinus inflammation specialists have in their repertoire, which involves putting a tiny balloon into your nose that opens your nasal cavities, helping you to breathe better, according to Healthline.

Patients who have a balloon sinuplasty usually recover in less than two days, as opposed to more than four days for those who have different surgical interventions, according to the medical journal The Laryngoscope.

After you have a balloon sinuplasty, there shouldn't be any bruising and your nose won't be packed with gauze, but you should not blow your nose, rather rinse it out with saline. Patients who feel congestion should sleep with their head elevated and avoid physical activity for several days, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

A study by the Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation concluded that 85% of patients who had a balloon sinuplasty found that their sinus symptoms improved when asked two years after the procedure was conducted.
