Arizona Breathe Free Sinus and Allergy Centers, a new clinic that opened in September in Scottsdale, offers treatment for allergies that can be completed at home without a doctor’s visit.
They’re called allergy drops and are an alternative to allergy shots.
“Allergy drops are easy to use and all done from the comfort of your home,” said the center’s Dr. John Stewart. “You can avoid the constant trip to your doctor’s office. They are safe to take with you on vacations.”
One advantage is that drops are produced from all-natural extracts of allergens such as pet dander, mold, dust and pollen. The drops are administered in small doses, reducing the possibility of an allergic reaction to the treatment.
Drops are just as effective as shots in reducing symptoms, according to the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Drops also work much more quickly than shots. They can begin helping within four weeks, compared to four months for shots.
You can administer them yourself at home, work or even while traveling. This also lowers the number of insurance co-pays for clinic visits.
The center offers two types of testing for allergies, blood tests known as RAST and a skin scratch test.
“With the scratch test you get instant results and a treatment plan can be coordinated immediately based on your individual test results," Stewart said.
